CBR Program

Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) was initiated by WHO following the Declaration of Alma-Ata in 1978 in an effort to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families; their basic needs; and ensure their inclusion and participation. While initially a strategy to increase access to rehabilitation services in resource constrained settings, CBR is now a multi-sectoral approach working to improve the equalization of opportunities and social inclusion of people within disabilities while combating the perpetual cycle of poverty and disability. CBR is implemented through the combined efforts of people with disabilities, their families and communities, and relevant government and non-government health, education, vocational, social, empowerment and other activities.

CBR Program was initiated in the Sahjanwa Block of Gorahpur with the support of CBR Forum Bangalore in April 2016. DISA has identified 443 differently able people in 35 villages of Sahjanwa Block in the initial phase and now we are taking them to the main stream through the formation of Villages DPOs, Block DPOs and District DPOs, and District DPOs focusing the CBR Matrix. The fifth year of the community –based rehabilitation has taken its role to help people with disabilities, to a inclusive society with human dignity through the education, and extended mobility and livelihood activities. Following are the few more stepping stones for this great venture. DISA is sincerely indebted to CBRF Bangalore for their frequent assistance to accomplish this great task
