MA KI ROTI - COMMUNITY KITCHEN - FOOD FOR THE POOR:
Ma KI Roti Programme is a new initiative of DISA in collaboration with Yuva Parivarthan of Mumbai and Self Help Groups for the management of Community Kitchen at three locations in Basti, Siddharthnagar and Shravasti Districts.
The underlining principle is that no poor person goes to bed on an empty stomach. Lunch is prepared and served to the following needy people : orphans, widows, widowers, aged / senior citizens, handicap, mentally ill, homeless, rag-pickers, manual labourers, patients, sick, poor, abandoned, construction workers, rickshaw pullers, hospital attendants etc. Every day 50 lunch meals are to be served to needy people and Rs 10/- per plate is collected from them as their contribution. Each meal consists of 4 items: one bowl of rice, vegetable curry, one cup of dhal and 3 chapattis. A women’s Self - Help Group cooks and serves the meals hygienically with love.
Yuva Parivarthan of Mumbai shall mobilize funds from Corporate sector under CSR and transfer the fund directly to the Self Help Group and the Vendor who supplies provisions and vegetables. DISA monitors the programme implementation and support the Self Help Group for management of the Community Kitchen. Three Self Help Groups at Basti Sadar, Mithaval and Ikauna are engaged in this programme.
